EVENT, IN COLLABORATION WITH BONNEFANTEN MUSEUM:

4 ARTISTS IN DIALOGUE: STORIES ON DECOLONIZATION AND DIVERSITY

With Raquel van Haver, Sef, Sylvia Pessireron & Juul Sadée

Moderated by: Wouter Greven

In this dynamic livestreamed event, 4 artists from different disciplines shared their views on (de)colonization and diversity. The event was part of Say It Loud, an international group exhibition in Bonnefanten Museum by contemporary artists whose work explores subjects related to diversity and the colonial past.

Writer Sylvia Pessireron, whose parents arrived in The Netherlands about 70 years ago, talked about the painful and often ignored (colonial) history of The Moluccas and The Netherlands.

Visual artist Juul Sadée elaborated on the art objects that she created in collaboration with Moluccan women from Maastricht, especially for the SAY IT LOUD exhibition. These works zoom in on the invisibility of Moluccan women in colonial history and current times.

Dutch pop artist Sef (Yousef Gnaoui) joined via Zoom to discuss his work and methods. Sef made a song based on BLKNWS, the video installation by artist Kahlil Joseph that’s one of the highlights of the exhibition.

Last but not least there was Raquel van Haver. Her collection of grand, sculptural paintings is an absolute showstopper of Say It Loud. Her paintings, inspired by visits to Colombia, her place of birth, was the last topic of discussion.

The programme was moderated by Wouter Greven.

This event was part of a series of 3 events in connection to Say it Loud that takes place in the weekend of 10 and 11 April. Find more information about the other events on www.bonnefanten.nl

Story-Line brings storytellers from different disciplines together on stage to share or perform their stories: authors, journalists, film makers, photographers, artists, actors. In Story-Line events these stories offer you a broad perspective on different topics. Additional partners for this event are Bonnefanten Museum and Interdisciplinary Arts (iArts Maastricht).
